About unit

The ability to breathe freely through your nose is a guarantee of good health and well-being. Chronic nasal congestion can be caused by polyps formed in the nasal cavity. Surgical treatment is required to help the patient return to full life and breathe freely through the nose.

Polyps (adenoids) are benign neoplasms. They can occur at any age caused by chronic inflammatory processes due to allergic rhinitis, structural changes in the nose’s tissue, a deviated nasal septum, and more.

Polyps are generally painless, so it is impossible to identify their presence on your own. The following symptoms may indicate the presence of polyps in the nose:

  • snoring at night;
  • obstructive sleep apnea;
  • persistent nasal congestion;
  • bloody nasal excretions;
  • decrease or loss of taste and smell.

The same symptoms can occur due to other pathologies and diseases, therefore, for an accurate diagnosis, you have to consult a doctor.

Polyps can occur in any area of the nasal channel or in the maxillary sinuses and create a physical obstacle to free breathing. To determine the polyps localization, the volume of tissue growth, as well as to identify concomitant diseases caused by polyps, X-rays are taken before the operation. If polyps are localized in the maxillary sinuses, a CT scan may be needed.

In the Healthy&Happy medical centers, polyps are removed using modern technologies: an endoscope and a radio knife, which provides radio wave coagulation, reducing the risk of bleeding. The operation is endonasal – through the nose channels. It does not require any additional incisions and does not result in cosmetic defects. in addition, with the help of an endoscope, the surgeon can reach hard-to-reach places that are inaccessible with the classical method. The operation is performed under the control of an endoscope, which provides visualization.

Indications for surgery are polyps confirmed by instrumental diagnostics in the nasal cavity or sinuses, which cannot be treated with conservative methods (medication).

The operation is not performed during an exacerbation of chronic diseases, allergies, acute respiratory diseases, accompanied by an increase in body temperature, pregnancy, lactation.

The decision on the expediency of an operation to remove polyps is made by the attending physician.

The operation is performed under local anesthesia and takes from 30 to 60 minutes. The recovery period is 1 day, the day after the operation the patient needs to be under the supervision of a doctor. The next day he can go home and return to his usual way of life. After the operation (restoration of nasal breathing), the effect can be felt by the patient as early as 5-7 days after the procedure. Full recovery after surgery occurs within a month. During the recovery period, the patient may be prescribed nasal sprays to restore the functions of the nasal mucosa.
