Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a disease in which abnormal accumulation of lipids occurs in the liver. In other words, the tissues become covered with fat, and this interferes with the normal functioning of the organ.
Despite the frequent absence of mentioned symptoms in the early stages, the syndrome is a big threat to the patient’s health. In 75% of cases, its consequence is hepatomegaly – a pathological increase in the size of the liver, which is fraught with a considerable number of complications and even lead to cirrhosis. Therefore, NASH requires mandatory treatment. A patient with a confirmed diagnosis can participate in the Liver Hepatosis program of the Medical Clinical Research Center at the MC Healthy&Happy and get free access to the most modern medicines of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

What are the symptoms of the disease?
In many patients, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis has a “silent” status, marked its presence only with weakness and rapid fatigue. In other cases, nausea in the morning hours, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, pain, and heaviness in the right hypochondrium, skin itching are added. In addition, since obesity is one of the important reasons for the development of steatohepatitis, many patients have an increased body mass index – more than 30. It is very simple to check whether this indicator is normal for you: you should divide your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters. For example, the BMI of a person weighing 70 kg with a height of 170 cm will be 70 / 1.7 * 1.7, that is, about 24.2.

Patients with an officially NASH diagnosis are recommended a number of measures aimed at eliminating the causes of its development and risk factors. We are talking about a special diet and physical activity. Experts advise to reduce body weight, give up alcohol, and stop taking hepatotoxic medication. Subsequently, treatment with thiazolidinediones, antioxidants, vitamin E is added to the list mentioned above.
